Lake's Open, Ducks Are Back, Put Away The Skis, Get Out The Kayaks

7:00
Lake Is Open
Last Of The Ice
What a surprise to walk outside to take a photograph and notice the small waves, actually wrinkles on the lake's surface as the ice disappeared overnight.  And I noticed a pair of Canadian geese floating by, a bevy of buffleheads diving for food.  I missed them.  It's back to a bit of a  chill, 36ยบ, overcast and wet, with only a few mounds of snow remaining from the plows.  It looks like today will be much like yesterday in the morning, overcast, dreary, some fog, and rain but clear up in the afternoon.  And tomorrow, sun all day, in the 60's.  I just rushed outside as a flock of swan, like white rags hanging in the sky, flew by Long Point and settled in the waters of Whitney Bay.  I could barely see them but could hear their cooing.

Swans A Swimming
Yesterday was about as miserable a day as we have had at the lake, lots of fog and rain during the day, not a stitch of sun, a depressing kind of day.  Fortunately, my day began with a good breakfast with Charlie at the Bemus Point Inn.  The drive over and back, however, was slowed by a heavy fog on the road and lake.  The same when I went to yoga, fog and slowed traffic.  Class was good as always but what a contrast to the previous days, when we walked outside into a glorious day of blue skies and sun.

Foggy Afternoon
Rising Fog On Long Point
When I got home, Evie had spent the morning cleaning the house so she was pumped at all the work she had gotten done.  It's always nice to feel something has been accomplished.  As I had my lunch. the leftover Cuban from Wednesday night at the Viking, Evie drove off to the Y, a good, good girl.  And my afternoon did not change though lots of basketball tournament games on the tube, so I watched bits and pieces of a couple of games.  And did some reading, napping, and wishing that it were nice enough out to do something.  It wasn't.

Our good friend, Barb Cassell, who grew up here at the lake, was back in town for the funeral of her 96 year old mother.  So we left for the funeral home in Jamestown, got there in time for the Greek Orthodox prayer service at 6:15.  We knew most of the family, so we spent a half hour at the funeral home before all the local friends and family went to the Comfort Inn, to celebrate Nulie Jonethis' life.  Both she and her husband Terry were immigrants from Albania just after WW II.  We spent an hour at the Comfort Inn, enjoyed some of the good Greek food, along with a Metaxa (A Greek brandy) Manhattan, just one. and talked with family and friends  before driving home in the fog and rain around 8:00.  We watched the disappointing final episode to American Crime, which left us with no ending, many questions, a cop out we both thought.  We then switched to the Republican debate for 15 minutes at the most before turning to something more interesting and entertaining.  And, later, it was good to get back to my book, THE RESISTANCE MAN, by Martin Walker and life in Southern France with Bruno, the Policeman.
