A Dreary Dawn

This Morning At 7:03
Four Years Ago: 11/11/2011

Up to the darkness of a 6:00 morning, to listen to MSNBC analyze last night's debate.  According to the pundits, no one seemed to have won though Rubio and Cruz stood out so they thought.  The two most reasonable, Bush and Kasich are, sadly, at the bottom of the heap.  It looks like cloudy weather all day, perhaps some rain, then rain for the next few days, with the possibility of snow on Saturday when we head to Euclid for the night.  Welcome to Chautauqua weather.

Yesterday we began to think seriously about our trip, trying to figure out what we would need for the next 18 days.  What do you bring for weather in Nashville, New Orleans, Dallas, and Kansas City? Or more importantly, why worry about it.  If you need something or forgot something, just buy it.  It's difficult to think that way, however, so both of us are planning for a range of temperatures, from the 20's in the Midwest, to the 70's in the Southwest.  I like to start getting things organized three or four days ahead of time, so that I take it in small bites, rather than one big day of organizing.  For me, it's easier.  The same goes for Evie, begin early, finish late.

Because it rained on and off most of Tuesday, neither of us were too interested in a walk.  I did finally get out late morning for a walk in the drizzle through the woods of Victoria/Woodlawn.  Wet leaves, barren trees, a wet rain coat, it still was good to be out.  For lunch, I had another bowl of chickpea stew, watched another episode of Longmire (it's nice to have a series to watch), and waited for the plumber to come over for the third time in a week.  One of the heating zones is not working and he supposedly had fixed it but it continues to give us trouble.  While I waited, Evie did a mega shopping run, getting stocked up for our trip and for our return, not her favorite thing to do.  It took her a couple of hours, the plumber about 15 minutes to get the furnace working again, a sticky zone valve.

When Evie returned, she began the sauce for a moussaka, planning ahead because we are having the McClures over for dinner tonight.  It smelled wonderful, like a Greek Taverna.  With a glass of wine, she is a whiz in the kitchen.  For dinner, we had the leftover lemony chicken on sourdough, better the day after I might add.  We watched The Good Wife, the first episode of Getting On before turning, reluctantly, to the Republican Debate.  It was the best so far, less circus like, more serious as the candidates began to differentiate themselves, their policies.  Trump was the best:  "terrific, tremendous, incredible, unbelievable, and really nice."  And I finished Kanon's THE PRODIGAL SON, which I liked and started Michael Smerconish's TALK, about the life of a conservative talk show host.  I was not sure about it but it's great so far.  And it's supposedly being made into a movie.
