Overcast With A Gentle Rain

6:34
Back to normal, as I was up at 6:30, Evie sleeping in until 7:00.  A dreary morning, though I tend to like it because we have not had a morning like this in months, or so it seems.  Sometimes we just like a rainy day.  It's 54º out, the high in the 60's later in the day, with rain forecast for much of the day. Only the ducks seem oblivious to the rain, paddling by in pairs, looking for a shoreline to nest.

Greater Scaup?
I woke yesterday thinking I would skip yoga but at the last minute, decided to finish out the week, then take a hiatus.  The usual suspects were in class, as people tend to routine, going to a class just on Tuesdays.  I am the only one who goes to class just about everyday, whereas most go once or twice a week.  Since we had not shopped in awhile, I stopped at both Home Depot and Wegmans.  I picked up potting soil for Evie at Home Depot because she wanted to pot the ivy geraniums I bought on Monday in Westfield.  Wegman's was a nightmare; not only was it 5% off Tuesday, when all the cheap retirees like me shop, but Wegman's is undergoing its quarterly reshelving of goods, making it impossible to find what you are looking for.  Thus, every aisle was filled with stranded golden agers, looking for that coffee can or canned green beans.  Wegmans even had signs up saying snacks are now in aisle 10.
Kayaking In Gray
When I got home, Evie had been working hard to get her  garden back in shape, and the beds surrounding the house were all weeded. And though it was overcast, the lake was smooth and inviting so Evie put aside her gardening tools, and we paddled off towards Wells Bay, on a gray lake, gray sky but little wind.  As usual, it was enough to just be on the water, despite the gray.
A Beautiful Male Mallard
After kayaking, I of course had a lunch of leftover chicken, mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy from Sunday.  Yum.  And I watched some NBA, then did some reading.  It was a good day to be outside, so Evie spent most of the day outside working. By the end of the day, all the geraniums were potted and the garden is starting to look somewhat orderly though the temptation, for Evie, is to rototill the whole thing and start over again.  We will see how much mojo and time we have over the next few weeks.  I sense we will put it off another year.

For dinner, Evie made a pasta sauce with mushrooms and frozen meatballs, and with a salad we had dinner ready.  We did relax with a glass of wine before putting the water on for the pasta, a necessity at the end of the day, enjoying the end of day with a beverage.  Dinner was good, as we used whole wheat pasta and hardly noticed the difference from our usual.  We binged on BOSCH, still not one of our favorites but good enough to keep watching.  It's too predictable, often silly, such a contrast to American Crime, which really develops five or six characters in depth, each with their own story,
none predictable but believable.  I could not wait to get up to bed; I finished THE ALIENIST, thank god and started a book I really like, the Mann Booker Prize winning THE NARROW ROAD TO THE DEEP NORTH by Australian Richard Flanagan.
