Yesterday we did it...finally hung pictures in our TV room and small back bedroom and we had no second thoughts. Amazing. Today, we have the front bedroom, perhaps the other back bedroom though it's filled with geraniums at the moment so we may wait. After such a grueling morning, we treated ourselves to a roast beef sub from Hogan's Hut. We watched Jon Stewart, ate our sub but we were interrupted mid way by the arrival of our plumber Marcus and his buddy, Rob. They pulled out the pump in our well, thinking that it was seated to low, thus bringing up some grit as well as water. When they got it out, they found it was already a foot above the well bottom, and because the well was so shallow, only about 12 feet, they did not want to raise it higher. So they put it back in, and because of the work, our water was grittier than ever. We ran the well on and off all day, which cleared it up fairly well but we still have a problem, one we have yet to solve. At least they 'did no harm.' When we get back in June, we will look into a couple of possible solutions, all costing money of course.
The one good thing that happened was my mechanic called, said he could save me a 150 bucks by using a retro fitted air conditioner pipe. I said go for it, of course, and picked my car up around 2:30, with a working air conditioner and no muffler noise. It's ready, now for the summer, our trips to Virginia, Connecticut in May, Top Sail, NC, in July. It's then to the car dealer as a trade in for, what I hope, is a new Subaru Outback. I still have three or four months to change my mind.
We were exhausted from hanging pictures and watching the plumbers fool around with our well and pump, so we wasted a good part of the afternoon but had enough mojo to shower around 5:30 and go our for wings at Steeners Pub. Luckily, we found the last two seats at the bar. It was loud and crowded, the after work crowd of guys, mostly regulars we assumed, with others coming in to eat in the dining room. We ordered beers, and I had a bowl of their chicken chili, before an order of fries and wings with Randy's sauce arrived. Evie loves their fries and now loves the wings with the special hot sauce. She is easy to please. We did not strike up a conversation with anyone until we were about to leave when Evie started talking to the guy sitting next to her as most of the regulars had left. Jeremy ended up being the part time bartender at Steeners, had also bartended at the Seezurh House in Bemus and then he recognized us. He is a nice guy, and we look forward to seeing him when he's behind the bar. We left with a brownie, with peanut butter ice cream, highly recommended by Bill Steener, the owner and bartender. We raced home, Evie split it into two dishes and we watched an episode of Rita before watching the final two hour American Idol extravaganza, which was really quite good as they have all types of musical stars on for the final. The show can be cheesy but it is fun to see someone rise from nowhere and slowly grow into a bona fide musical talent.
I am now reading J. K. Rawlings A CASUAL VACANCY. Not sure why I downloaded it, but she writes well and is a good story teller so I am enjoying it.
