Ah, A Warming Sunday Morning Sun

8:10
It's 8:00 and NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday has just begun. The sun just peaked out from the cloud bank, briefly filling the living room with sunshine, like a visual elixir.  It's 30º out, perhaps the high for the day but it feels mild compared to the sub zero days. Waking up to a sunrise, especially like this mornings, is one of the joys of being back at the lake.
Mid Morning Glare On Icy Lake
Yesterday seemed a bore without our grandchildren hanging around.  We were not sure what to do with ourselves though we knew it would not be something energetic because we both were tired and had colds.  I cannot remember when I last had a cold.  It's annoying but does not stop us from doing things.  Around 10:00, I did hit the Transfer Station, in single digit temps and the young guy working the shift wore a tee shirt, bare arms, a muscle shirt, the man!  Of course, I was bundled up in layers, cap, and gloves, not 'the man,'  By the time I got home, literally a village of fishermen had gathered on the ice off of Long Point  I guess the perch and walleyes are still biting.

Shane, who keeps our roads plowed, came by early afternoon, cleared out parking area, like a cowboy, and got stuck in a huge drift he had made when he cleared out area.  He had to dig the snow out from under his truck before he could plow the drift, clearing the road.  I don't think he was too happy about coming down to clear out parking area after that disaster.
Father and Son Fishing at 3:30
We decided to binge watch more of House of Cards, so we watched one episode during lunch, then took time off to read, to take a nap, to watch some basketball and TV.  We were tempted to go outside but neither of us had the energy to get up off the couch and bundle up.  Tomorrow we said.  Our neighbor, Joe Bergen was up for the day and he discovered his furnace had not been working.  The plumber, fortunately, came over within the hour, found the problem, so that the it worked but as things warmed up, the pipes thawed, he discovered some of the pipes had burst, a nightmare but a common one in this area this winter, so we have heard.  He will have the plumber come by on Monday to fix things but this motivated me to order a dialup freeze detector from Amazon.  We used to have one but it broke.  It calls our cell phone number if the house gets below a certain temperature.
Dusk Hits Long Point
We both took showers to get warmed up around 5:00, then settled down with cheese, crackers, and our occasional Manhattan, and listened to Garrison Keeler on NPR.  And, best of all, a blizzard of sorts started and kept falling and blowing for an hour.  Evie spent most of our cocktail hour taking photos of the spectacular snow fall, like something out of Van Gogh's 'Starry Night.'  This may be the last snow fall of any import for the winter so we made sure to thoroughly enjoy it.

Our good friend Linda Hepp had left some homemade soup in our freezer when checking on our house last week, so we had that for dinner, along with Italian sausages and bread, an easy dinner. The soup was really good, thick with beans and veggies, and we watched two more episodes of House of Cards, have one to go before starting Season Three. I am glad we are watching Season One and Two again because we have forgotten so much.  We were in bed by 10:30, knowing it was actually 11:30 because of daylight savings time.

We hope to get out on the lake today, cross country skiing.  My only worry, how we are going to navigate crossing our two foot deep yard of snow.
