A Light Snow In Connecticut

Morning Snow
7:37
Up at 6:45, which surprised me because I heard the coffee pot go off at 5:00, start grinding the beans but went back to sleep.  It's a warm 11º here in Darien compared to the -7º at Lake Chautauqua. Maybe an inch fell overnight, just enough to give the barren branches a frosting of white.

Our daughter Jill's family left yesterday morning early, making it home just before it started to snow in Virginia, good timing.  We certainly miss them, especially Hayden an Halle, and the house is deafeningly quiet without them despite Marisa and Mitch.  When we have a visit like that, we stay up later, get up earlier, perhaps eat and drink more than we should.  Thus, yesterday we were all kind of lazy, not wanting to do much but hang out in the house, stay warm because the temperatures most of the day were in single digits and with the wind chill, probably below zero.

My one excursion was to Stop N Shop for stuff for dinner.  We were having a pork tenderloin with a white wine sauce and needed some of the ingredients, along with vegetables.  There's not much out there vegetable wise this time of the year and what there is, it's often not fresh.  Both bagged salads, for example, were bad even though the expiration date was in two days.

My only exercise for the day was taking Cody for a walk and it was as cold as I can remember here as I forced myself to walk the entire length of the street and worried about frost bite for him.  It was that cold.  Most of the afternoon, then, we spent reading, watching TV, prepping for dinner, the usual sort of things on a first day of vacation.

We decided to have dinner around the TV and watch Project Runway, one of Marisa and Beth's favorite shows.  It was finals so it was tres exciting.  Spoiler alert...Dimitri won.  And we watched SNL's fortieth anniversary show which was fun.  We had forgotten how many great actors and comedians got their start on that show.

It's now 7:30 and I am still the only one up.  I think everyone was really tired out from the past few days.  It looks like it might be a Stew Leonard day, Marisa's favorite grocery store in Norwalk.  She has been wanting to go there all week.  Evie and I enjoy it as well.  And, if you spend more than fifty dollars, she gets a free soft serve ice cream cone.
