The Bite Of Winter Is In The Air

7:10
Tuesday Afternoon
It's 7:42 and I just heard more gun shots off in the distance, as horizontal puffs of gray clouds fill the sky, the lake gray and wrinkled beneath, 37ยบ, with a gusty wind, a good day to drive to Erie to get my Pilot's oil changed, the car checked over before our trip next Thursday, to Cleveland, then Chicago for the weekend, to visit Evie's sister Elaine, then Kansas City for a week and Thanksgiving.  Another road trip for the traveling Davis's.

Yoga with Courtney started my morning at 9:30, the emphasis on building strength in our thighs and hamstrings, so we did lots of half and full squats and stuff like that.  My legs feel it this morning.  It was hard to leave the lake because it was such a beautiful morning, but I want to keep up my routine of yoga each morning if I can.

Hiking Long Point State Park
When I got home, Evie was interested in taking a walk through Long Point State Park, so we drove over to the end of Lakeside Drive, parked, and walked through the woods, naked because of the loss of green, the fall of leaves.  It was good, of course, to just be outside in the beauty of a fall day, sun warming, temperatures in the 60's, perhaps for the last time until Spring.  We saw no one else on the trails, though their was one older couple having lunch at a picnic table, in the woods, overlooking the lake.  It makes us wonder why more people don't take advantage of this amazing park set on the lake.  Evie talked briefly with a woman who lives on the lake, where a new house was going up, a tear down of course.  She used to live in Falconer, owned the Funeral Home, but moved to the lake after selling the business a few years ago.  She had her grandsons at the house for a couple of days and it looked as if she would be happy to see them head back to school today.
Tall and Slim (Trees)
We were home around 1:00, for a lunch of leftover Chinese food.  We watched Stewart and Colbert, a bit of a let down as the elections are over, the fodder for satire has lessened.  But, hey, the Presidential elections are only 726 days and 15 hours away.  Cannot wait to get that Commie loving, Muslim sympathizing, wimp of a President out of office.  The afternoon seemed to just fly, as we read, thought about kayaking, but did little until about 3:00.   I wanted to finish up a few chores outside, especially because it was so warm.  I cleaned out the grill, making sure it was ready for the long winter.  I packed more millings (ground up asphalt) on our road, making sure the potholes were taken care of.  And I did some raking of leaves and twigs in our backyard, where our Bradford Pear still holds many of it's leaves.  By the time I was finished, the back yard looked great, green and leaf and twig less.  But when I picked up the paper this morning, it was once again covered with leaves and twigs, a result of the winds and rain from last night.

For dinner, we had stuffed shells, in our freezer from July when Evie made mega trays for our son in law's retirement party in Virginia.  They were just as good as in July, and with a salad and garlic bread, we had another easy but tasty meal.  We watched three more episodes of The Affair, which we like but the constant coupling of the two protagonists gets tiring and even boring.  Who would have thought sex could be boring?  Well, this series goes a long way to arguing its truth.  I guess we should have expected it from a series called The Affair...what else besides sex attracts people to consummate an affair.  We then watched some of HBO's tribute to the Vets and it was a great tribute, with wonderful music, our favorite, Bruce Springsteen, Zac Brown and Dave Grohl (of Nirvana, now Foo Fighters)  singing CCR's Fortunate Son.  Wow.  It was amazing.  I watched for about an hour, will see the rest today.  Evie stayed up for awhile before coming up to bed around 11:00, where I was lost in the world of the CIA, hackers, and political intrigue in THE DIRECTOR.

Yoga in an hour and a half, then a drive to Erie, then home around 3:00, to enjoy the afternoon in my cosy home, reading, sipping tea, reading and waiting for wine time!
