Rain Over Night, A Partly Cloudy Morning

7:06
Up just before 6:00, to the putt putt of a small boat, heading out to get that early morning catch.  It's 67º out, little action on the lake now at 7:00, a bit of shimmering on the lake as the sun attempts to peak over the cloud banks hanging over Long Point.

Yesterday was overcast much of the day but pleasant, as the sun occasionally would break through, steaming things up.  I did make it to yoga, a new guy was in class, so I was not the only male.  We worked most of the time on elongating the spine and of course, stretching the hamstrings.  I stopped at Ryder's afterwards, for an iced coffee, then came home, and Evie was already on the dock, having put together a couple of batches of meat sauce for baked ziti, leaving it cooling on the stove, the aroma filling the kitchen when I opened the door.  Another meal ready for the arrival of our kids!

Though the lake and sky were gray, it felt like a kayak morning, so both Evie and I went off for a paddle around 11:00, hoping to avoid the thunderstorms in the area.  We paddled down to Whitney Bay and back, to an increasingly cloudy sky but no rain.  When we got back, we both jumped in the water, clear and refreshing, a mojo builder!  My new mantra, when tired, 'go jump in the lake.'  For lunch I heated up the leftover pork barbecue, quickly sliced some cabbage for cole slaw, and watched the final episode of last year's Ray Donovan.  For some reason, Showtime did not make available Sunday night's first episode of season two.

The rest of the afternoon was spent on the dock, reading and jumping in the lake, no guilt, just 'doing nothing' all afternoon.  Occasionally, when we felt energized, we might get up off our chaise lounges and throw a fishing line in the water for a few minutes, before tiring, and plopping back down on our chairs.  Around 5:00, we went in and Evie quickly put together our dinner of chicken, artichoke hearts and mushrooms, and then we drove off to have a beer on Webb's Outdoor deck, with our next door neighbor's daughter, Kathy Leonard.  We had not had much of a chance to really talk with her, so it was fun to get away for an hour and catch up.  I had thought Webb's would be a nice venue, with its view of the lake, but I was surprised by the noise of the traffic going by, the music piped out of the sound system, not exactly a waterfront bar.  Woodlawn is so much preferable but it was still nice to do something different.

We got home around 6:45, and Evie made some rice, and we had our dinner by 7:30.  We watched the first episode of Season Two's Masters of Sex, the story of Masters and Johnson's difficult journey to map and understand sexuality.  We were both surprised and riveted by the first season, two amazing performances by both protagonists and a surprisingly enveloping story of their lives, familial complications, and of course, SEX.  At 9:00, we watched the final episode of 24, happy to see Jack finally whisked away by the Soviets, ready to reappear in another season, the proverbial cat with nine or ten lives.

  1. Hi Uncle Tom. We have been watching the series "Fargo" this past week which was on FX this past season. Very very good! I know you would like it if you can access it. Hope your summer is not going by too fast. Cheers.
