Fog Rising On A Cold (41º) Morning

6:36
7:16
Up at 6:20 to fog on the lake, a huge bank of gray toward Bemus Point, and a crisp, energizing morning here at the lake.  I love the coolness, the hint of winter perhaps but I am not ready yet for the end of summer.  An Indian summer would be ideal but not yet, wait till late October.

Yesterday was just like the day before, sunny, windy, cool, a perfect day to be outside, to fish but not to boat as the lake was still choppy, the wind strong enough so that we were forced to sit in our side yard to avoid its force and coolness, especially when the sun hid behind clouds.  We did go for a nice walk in the morning, a new one for us, up Woodlawn to Morley, down Morley to Stow, to Carpenter Pringle, then back home via Carpenter Pringle and Victoria, clocked at three miles, an hour an fifteen minutes if anyone cares.  We enjoyed the walk, thought about what it would be like in the winter with snow.  You can see where our minds are, on the coming of winter and cold and snow and it's still early September.

Once again we spent a lazy afternoon at the lake, doing nothing, so unlike Evie, just like me.  Evie was going to cut the grass but she enjoyed just sitting outside in the sun so much that she put it off for today. Early afternoon, Evie did make a cucumber soup for lunch, and put together the dough for one of our favorite breads, onion rye, which she will bake this morning.  Mid afternoon, I decided to ride my bike, so I put it in my car, drove to Bemus and biked Lakeside Drive, to the park and back, not too strenuous for my first bike ride in a month, about forty five minutes of riding.  It felt good to be on my bike again and I hope I can keep it up some this fall.  Yesterday was an ideal day to ride because it was cool yet sunny.

At Pine Junction with David and Pat Jones
At 5:30, we took the back roads, Bailey Road actually, to Pine Junction bar/restaurant, about a half hour ride from here.  We met the Joneses who had play golf at Peak and Peek during the afternoon.  We love the ride, the farms, the hills, the lack of development.  And the arrival at Pine Junction is a trip, a bumpy, rocky road, a decrepit barn, some old machinery in the weeds, making you wonder if this is the right place. And then you round the corner and there's a restaurant, a parking lot with cars, viola. We had burgers, sweet potato fries, and beers and sat inside because it was too chilly outside.  The outdoors has really changed, with a couple of new out buildings, one a huge pavilion for bands and parties, another newer one, I assume for eating as well.  The place keeps growing, getting ready for the snow mobiles.  We returned home around 8:30, had tin roofs, my mom's favorite sundae, chocolate sauce on vanilla ice cream with Spanish peanuts, and watched a few more episodes of Nurse Jackie.

I finished THAT OLD CAPE MAGIC by Richard Russo, and started on a new detective series, mentioned on NPR yesterday, set in India.  Written by an Englishman, Tarquin Hall, the first book, THE CASE OF THE MISSING SERVANT, like all, give the reader a taste and feel of life in modern India.  So far, it's good.

O, yea, I forgot.  I turned seventy today, the new sixty!
