A Stroll Around Findley Lake

7:10
Up at 7:00, just in time to see the sun pop up over Bemus Bay, like a light being turned on in our living room.  It's so bright I have to change chairs, as the glare fills the room.  It's 43º outside, with some steam rising from the lake, a sunny and clear day ahead, another perfect day on the lake.  I cannot wait to get outside for a hike/walk like yesterday.

Yesterday morning was surprisingly cold until about 10:00, so we hung out till then though Evie did put together the dough for chocolate chip cookies, using a new recipe which recommended allowing the dough to refrigerate for up to 24 hours, the longer supposedly the better.  Around 10:30, we decided to drive to Findley Lake, about twenty five minutes away and walk the 5 mile loop around the lake, something we have never done before.  It was a nice cool day for the walk, and we enjoyed it immensely, looking at all the homes for sale on the lake, 38 by the time we finished.  The lake is built up like our lake, with hardly any green space left though at the south end, there is more open land.  We liked the west side the most, Shady Side Drive because it seemed more forest like, homes hidden in woods where as the east side, Sunny Side Drive, had fewer trees, and a much more traveled road.  Lots of neat homes though, a small but safe lake to enjoy boating, even water skiing, with a bit of a town at the north end.  We took our time, the route taking just over two hours.  We did stop in an antique store in the village, browsed for fifteen minutes before driving back.

Mid afternoon, Evie tried to sit out on the dock and read but it was too cool, the breeze too strong, though the side yard was better.  I read inside until about 5;00 when the lake settled down, the breeze dissipated, so we went for a effortless kayak ride, towards Long Point, up to the Pavilion, then over to Camp Chautauqua and home. The lake was like glass, the sun warming as it sat above the trees.

We came home, put the leftover chicken in the oven and settled down for a glass of wine, waiting for the dinner to warm.  About 7:00, I took the frozen homemade pasta noodles out of the freezer, popped them into the boiling water and within three minutes, we had fresh homemade pasta with chicken and sauce.  The noodles seemed just as good as if we had just made them so now we know to always make enough to freeze. We watched The Descendants, set in Hawaii, for the second time but still enjoyed it, especially the setting, the life in modern Hawaii. And Evie baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies for our dessert though she did not think they were anything special, too sweet but I liked them.  I am now reading the new Robert Crais thriller, SUSPECT, about a dog and his handler, both victims of violent crimes.  It makes me want to get a dog but not yet.  In bed by 11:00, looking forward to the next day.
