BASS BOATS AWAKETH ON A COOL SATURDAY MORNING

Bass Boat Morning

6:00

After a week respite, the bass boats are back, waking me on the dot of 6:00, as they race out of Long Point Marina to find that sweet spot.  To be honest, I don't mind the noise; it reminds me of summers on the lake and it lasts for about two minutes, then it's quiet again.  It's a lovely morning, sitting out on my porch, sun hiding behind the leaves now, my fleece and Ugg boots on, keeping me warm on this cool morning of 61ยบ.  It's supposed to get warmer each day, into the 90's next week perhaps so I better enjoy this great weather while I can.

Yesterday was another early morning, so chilly that I did not venture out to the porch but stayed inside on my couch. Yoga was earlier, at 9:00, so I did not go kayaking, just stayed inside and enjoyed an easy morning.  When I left at 8:40, Evie went out for a long kayak paddle, to Tom's Point and back, about an hour.  Yoga was fine, a couple of summer visitors, which is becoming more common, good for the studio.  I did not linger, came home, and immediately went for a paddle, with my fishing pole, off towards the reeds.  I have found a sweet spot, just off of Victoria Creek, at least I have had some luck there, which means I caught a few pan fish (four yesterday).  I also fished the reeds, got my lure caught on one of them, my favorite, 'little cleo,' so I jumped in the water and was able to extricate it from the reeds.  I then waded and fished in the reedy area for about 15 minutes, a great way to fish on a hot day, but did not have any luck.

When I got home, I went off to Chautauqua Marina, to pick up a clasp for an anchor, also to find out how much a larger motor for my boat might cost ($13,000 for a Yamaha 150), which I put out of my mind.  Then, I checked on renting a ski boat for a few days ($400 a day) so I  put that out of my mind and bought a $1.49 clasp.  A new engine cost more than my boat cost back in 2000.  I stopped at the Lighthouse, picked up some hamburger buns for our dinner,  a sub sandwich, always good, mostly because they go heavy on the mayo and fixings. Evie and I enjoyed the sandwich for lunch.

We did little work in the afternoon, but lazed about in the side yard as it was too windy and cool to sit out on the dock, a surprise since it was supposed to warm up but never did.  No complaints but I was surprised.

For dinner, Evie breaded some eggplant splices, fried them up, put fresh mozzarella on each patty and put them under the broiler for a few minutes.  We then made eggplant sandwiches out of the slices, with lots of mayo, lettuce, Siracha sauce, and basil, no tomatoes unfortunately.  They were amazingly good, making us wonder why we don't do this more often.  It's healthy and tasty and filling, two sandwiches stuffed with eggplant was plenty for me.  We then watched The Newsroom, a few episodes of Nurse Jacket, which we are liking more and more and went to bed.

This morning at 10:00, there is a meeting over in Bemus at the Seezurh Hosue, for lake front residents sponsored by the Chautauqua Lake Association.  I fear it's not going to be good news, as I don't think they plan on picking up neighborhood weeds like they did last year.

It's 7:20, time to go kayaking and fishing for an hour.
