Snow Shoeing the Trails at Long Point |
Yesterday was gray all day long, with occasional snow fall, perhaps two inches fell during the day. Evie stayed home yesterday to enjoy the morning while I went off to Yin Yoga. It was a great class, just four of us, instead of twelve or more. It enabled us to make use of the wall, something I like, because it feels good on your back. Just inverting your torso, putting your legs up the wall, your 'okole' fast up against the wall, feels good on the back. We even did our relaxing savasana (relaxing pose at the end of the class) with our legs straight up the wall, my back on two bolsters, head cradled in a blanket. It was fun to do some different poses.
When I got home, it was so gray with light flurries, that we decided to drive over to Long Point to snow shoe (Evie) and cross country ski (me). It was much like last Friday, amazing cathedrals of snow on the green pines, some paths, however, made either my machine or people snow shoeing though there was a layer of virgin snow, too, as no one had been on the trails that morning. We did the loop, starting at the end of Lake Side Drive, through the woods, down to the Marina, then back up through the Black Locust trail to our car. It was quite a work out, two and a half miles, and we were both tired and sweaty from the exercise.
We spent the rest of the day relaxing, both of us sore and tired from our jaunt. Evie roasted some chicken breasts for our dinner, perfect accompaniment to our Wedge salad and mashed potatoes. We watched the next episode of Downtown Abbey, both of us tiring of Carson's disapproving words and looks. We get it, the times are changing, especially for women, except it seems about fifty years early. I thought women's lib began in the 1970's, not in the 1920's. We then watched a couple more episodes of House of Cards. Kevin Spacey continues to appal and intrigue, with his back stabbing, lies, and charm. Kate Mara, the granddaughter of the owners of the football team founders Steelers and Giants seems equally willing to put aside any morality or belief to get a story and get ahead. Spacey's wife, Robin Wright, however, seems the most troubling, mostly because she is not opaque; we just don't know who she is, what motivates her, what she is capable of doing. Interesting.
Today is 'half price refreshment day' at the Lakewood Cinema, so at 4:00 we are going to see the much ballyhooed movie, Silver Linings Playbook. Let's hope we like it. I am not optimistic.
