Scottsdale Saturday With Petkovsek Sisters

Dot and Her Girls Petkovsek

It's about 7:30 and  I have been up for an hour, reading on the web and watching some TV.  It looks like a typical Scottsdale day, at least for us, sunny, blue skies, the highs in the low 80's, comfortable weather in jeans or shorts.  Not a lot on the agenda for today, as some of the family head home, but most of us will enjoy the day, get together later afternoon for dinner at Evie's sister Claire's house, which has become family central.

We had the Mass for Evie's Dad yesterday at 10:00, in a lovely chapel at St. Patrick's Church.  There were not as many people as in Euclid, which is to be expected, about fifty I would say.  We all thought the Priest did a fine job and we felt welcome  in the church even though many of us are pagans.  After the Mass, we went to the Mausoleum where Evie's Dad had a military funeral.  I had never been to one so it was quite impressive, two somber soldiers, unfolding and folding the American flag and then presenting it to my mother in law.  After that, he was interred in a vault in a wall, with his name on it, date of birth and death.  One funny detail, the vault below him held someone  called Topless.  Ed must be smiling.  About forty of us went to Buster's, a very nice Scottsdale restaurant, for a lovely luncheon and we all stayed there for a couple of hours and  enjoyed meeting lots of Ed and Dot's Scottsdale friends.

Around 2:00, we went back to our condo, and Evie and I went out to the huge pool for awhile.  It was a great day to lay in the sun, and Evie even jumped in the water.  The pool is huge, surrounded by a mega lounge chairs., the good life.  This would be a very comfortable place to stay for a week or two and from the crowded parking lot, many people are taking advantage of their time shares.

We went over to Claire's around 4:30 and stayed till about 9:30, visiting with family, enjoying the evening, and, of course, eating the sixty plus cabbage rolls we made earlier in the week.  It was fun as we haven't seen some of Evie's sisters for awhile, especially their children and grandchildren.  It was also great to also have a few babies around to ogled and hold.

This morning, at 9:30, the 'cousins' are getting together for breakfast at Chompies, a New York style Jewish deli here in Scottsdale that they all seem to know and like.  Sounds good but I am not a cousin!
