A Lighter Sky But Colder, as Winter Beckons

A December Kayak Morning

Gray on Gray

7:30 AM, A Touch of Light
Up late for me, at 7:30. to clouds mostly but not as dreary as yesterday, as light struggles to peak through the cloud bank.  It's 29 degrees out, chilly when I walked out to pick up the paper, a good start to the day, a perfect temperature for a walk, perhaps the CI, our Sunday routine.

Yesterday was dreary with light rain on and off during the day, but we managed to get some exercise, to force our lazy heads and get out of the house.  First, I went to yoga at 10:00, with a new teacher, Chris, who seems to be into the yoga philosophy as much as the poses.  I like him enough to come back, so I bought a monthly pass, and I can go as much as I want for a month, a good deal if you use it.  It was good to discover new muscles as we worked through various poses and I was even complimented on my warrior pose.  How about that!

When I got home, the lake was so placid and gray that it demanded with kayak, which we did.  We paddled slowly down to Bootey Bay and back, more windy than we thought once we got beyond Victoria.  We talked with a fisherman, anchored for at least four hours, off of Victoria,  who mentioned he had seen an injured goose, down in the reeds, and wondered if we could do anything about it.  We went down that way but we unable to see the goose, fortunately, as I don't know what we could have done about it.  It was great to be out on the water, to be on the lake, with sky and water surrounding us., as I practiced my yoga slogan for the day, patience and mindfulness. We felt at home.

Late afternoon, we drove over to Bemus Point to go for a walk, despite the wind and slate  gray skies.  Again, it felt wonderful to be outside, wind burning our face occasionally as we made our way down Lakeside Drive.  We used to love this back when we came to the lake on occasional weekends from Ohio.  We then stopped at the Seezurh House for a beer.  We talked with Pete Shore, our former neighbor for about 15 minutes and got caught up with him.  We then struck up a conversation with Mindy Graham, a waitress we have gotten to know (her sister waitressed at the Casino).  We starting taking about food and Evie mentioned that she had just put together a baked ziti and we were going home to it.  Well, Mindy wanted the recipe, so we talked some more, and ended up explaining to her my Mom's recipes for Clam Linguine.  She had made it for her fiancee and it was too watery.  She wanted that recipe as well.

We came home to baked ziti, watched  part of a movie called Melancholy, about the end of the world, but had enough after about a half hour.  So we watched another episode of Homeland and The Good Wife, and we are caught up on both series.   Homeland has two more weeks and we are really in to it, wondering where it will go.  They are masterful at bringing each episode to a dramatic end, making you   long for next week's episode.

So, this morning, just before I started writing my blog, I emailed Mindy both recipes, and we have a new friend.
