Threatening Winter Sky of to the East

7:29, a View I Better Get Used To

8:00
It's about 6:45, dark, with occasional rain for today, what else, about 37 degrees, though it will get a bit warmer later in the day.  I am getting tired of the gray, but Evie reminded me that I had better get used to it, with winter on it's way.  We won't see much sun for the next six months.

We are a bit bored here, at least  I am, but  not sure why.  I guess I need something to do each day and have not figured out what that is.  Fortunately, we did take a walk yesterday morning, through Long Point Park and though there was a gentle rain, it felt good to feel the brisk air, the wind on our faces.  We both like that sort of thing.  Lots of trees down in the park, in fact a crew was in the woods cutting down a couple of trees.  They said they were getting the woods and park ready and safe for a cross country meet coming up.  Perhaps they are having a regional or district cross country meet this next week.  I know the various tournaments have begun and we hope to go to JCC on Monday to see the regional girls volleyball finals, hopefully with Chautauqua Lake playing Randolph, about the only two teams we know.  Most of the leaves our down in the park, covering the pathways, but it wasn't so wet that we were constantly in mud.  The lake is quite high once again and for those who remember the rocks off of Long Point this summer, they have now disappeared beneath the water, that's how high the lake is now.

The sky is just beginning to lighten, a line of light gray over the shoreline to the east, heavy gray clouds over the lake, threatening and ominous.  No much on today's agenda, perhaps a walk at the CI, a fish fry at the Rod and Gun unless we come up with something else for dinner.

We did learn from our daughter, Beth, who has been without power in Darien that they are managing, able to get food from local places for dinner, building fires to keep warm, and the kids are managing as well.  Rami even went into the city for work though he had to drive to Stamford to get the train.  They are able to drive to Norwalk, about 15 minutes away, which has power, so they can shop, eat out, get gas, use cafes for wifi, things like that.  They just don't have power at home.  Fortunately, it is not that cold.  All of this makes me wonder if we ought to get a generator, to prepare for any emergency here at the lake.  The problem is they run on gas and if things were really bad, we would not have enough gas to run a generator for more than two or three days.  Nothing seems easy.

I continue to be glued to the TV, hating the politics, switching to stations that follow the tragedy of the storm.  I cannot believe the devastation left behind, especially on the Jersey Shore, Staten Island, Hoboken, and parts of Long Island.  It's going to be a long road to recovery, almost as bad in some areas a Katrina.  I wish there were something I could do but  I would just add to the problem if i were to go East.  CNN seems to be the best channel to follow whats going on.  Fox, of course, is busy maligning 'the anointed one', with MSNBC not far behind.  Both Evie and I wish Obama would return from campaigning, donate the money it costs for his travels, to the clean up and just do his job.  That won't happen but Evie did write the campaign headquarters to suggest it.  And we just heard that Obama, Clinton, and Dave Matthews are going to be at the Jiffy Lube Outdoor Stadium, in Bristow, VA, where our daughter Jill and family live, where we were at one week ago.  Too bad we are going to miss it.  Tickets are free and I would love for our granddaughters could go to something like this, a day to remember perhaps.
