Rainy and Overcast And Warming Up

7:15

Dinner with Mc Clures

Canvas Mud Room, Ready for Winter

November kayaking
Another gray morning, rain dripping off the roof, mists on the shoreline, not a very inviting morning for a Saturday.  It's forty degrees at the moment, warming up this weekend, perhaps in the seventies by Sunday afternoon, alas.  What kind of weather is that for mid November?  It will probably snow next week, following the seventy degree weekend.

We were able to kayak yesterday morning, though we thought we had missed out window of opportunity, as we had to wait till 10:30 for the Time Warner man to come.  He gave us a new, fancy DVR, no cost, and even, at Evie's urging, took out his extension pole, and lifted a branch hanging on the electrical wires, above our parking space.  I had tried to get it off from a ladder but it was just out of reach and too heavy.  After he left, we kayaked for about an hour, off to Long Point, where a couple of guys were fishing off the shore line, then paddled back across to Wells Bay and home.  The lake was a bit choppy out in the middle but calm, almost wave less when we paddled close to the shore line.  It was great to be back out on the lake again, a sun peaking out of the clouds, turning the lake blue.  There were a couple of fishing boats on the lake as well, as there have been most days, even when it was much colder.  I don't blame them for being out yesterday but earlier in the week, the lake was choppy, the wind heavy, yet they were out there, boats rocking, the intrepid ishermen standing in their boats.

I had my six month appointment with Dr Berke in Mayville and, and as usual, we spent a lot of time talking about his Iron Man preparations, an inspiration actually, as he works out every morning at 7:00 with a number of other guys, working on core on three days, swimming on the others.  He's a good guy.  And the office now has a computerized system, where  patients can access their records, ask a question and make appointments, all on line.  Also, your records will be available to other physicians should you have to visit another doctor or hospital.  It makes so much sense to do this, from both a physicians and patients point of view.  And it should save money.

For dinner, we had the Mc Clures over.  Evie made a fantastic dinner, cannelloni stuffed with Italian sausage, butternut squash, shallots and garlic, with a sage bechamel sauce and Brussels spouts with maple wood bacon and a brown sauce.  We devoured the meal, easily, and had a great time talking about the elections, our relief at the election of Obama.  They, like us, followed anxiously the vote on Tuesday night, staying up till 1:00 when it was clear that Obama had clinched the Presidency.
