Early Morning In Euclid, Ohio

Kayaking on a Warm Sunday Morning
Whitney Bay canals

Another Dynasty House goes Up in Whitney Bay

It's about 7:15, up after a restless night, a hotel room, a lumpy pillow.  I am getting old as I don't remember being bothered by motel rooms when we traveled in the 1970's and 1980's.  In fact, we slept in campgrounds, literally on the ground, no aches or pains the next morning.  Sound like an old man?

We had a beautiful morning at the lake yesterday, warm and sunny, a slight breeze, so nice we took an hour and a half kayak ride down to Whitney Bay, up some of the canals that lead off the lake to Rt. 394 and back home.  A few fishing boats were out, a couple kayakers earlier in the morning, but not much traffic.  We did hear guns going off in the distance, duck hunters I suppose.  When we returned home, it was already 11:00 and we were leaving for Euclid around 1:00, so we had to hustle to get ready to go.

My father in law, Ed Petkovsek, died a week ago but since he spent most of his working life in Euclid, a Mass is being said this morning.   So Evie's sisters, Claire and her husband Henry, and Elaine,  and her two children, Alex and Kiana, and her mother in law, Dot, came in to town around 3:30, and we are all staying at the Marriott Courtyard, in Willoughby, a town next to Euclid.  We sat around our motel room till about 6:30, drinking beer, having cheese and crackers, catching up and getting an update from my sister in law Claire's son, whose first child was about to be born.  She arrived at 6:06, Grace Eddy, a whopping nine plus pounds, but all is well.  She is darling for a new born, none of the misshapen heads, like many babies.  We went to Texas RoadHouse for dinner, Evie's favorite and we had a good time, lots of food and everyone seemed happy.  Evie played games with Kiana, her sister's fourth grader, so it was fun for her, too.  We came back to our room, sat around an talked, as Evie and Kiana played games on the IPAD, then all went back to their rooms and bed by 10:00.  It always seems like a long day when you vary your routine, especially put some travel in it, whether by car or plane.

We are leaving for the church this morning at 9:00, the service is at 10:00, with dinner to follow at Dubrovnik's, a Serb or Croat restaurant here in Willoughby, a place where we have eaten many times with my in laws and my parents.   In fact, we saw Hawaiian entertainer Don Ho, with Ed and Dot, at this restaurant about twenty years ago.  Amazing to see him in Ohio.
