Fishing tournament for TV

Fishing tournament
Up around 6:45, seems warm, clouds obscuring the sunrise over Bemus Bay.  It looks like a  sunny and warm day, what else, right.  It's been this way most of the week, but getting warmer each day.  Today our good friend from Painesville, Ohio, Vi Buck visits for the day.

Yesterday, the morning started with Evie and me rushing out to the dock, as the fishing tournament participants were casting their line in our front yard, with a camera man on the back of his boat.  I guess most boats have a camera man, so that the event can be put into an hour show.  The fisherman said little, though the guys in the boat that was following mentioned how lucky we were to live on this beautiful lake. The fisherman looked very professional, casting every twenty or thirty seconds, usually under docks, seemingly each cast right on the mark, no problem with weeds or getting your lure stuck on a dock.  Supposedly they are killing the bass, unlike me.

Later in the morning, I went off to Fluvanna, the north east side of the lake, and took an hour bike ride, wandering up and down the lake side streets, looking at homes, getting a good idea of these neighborhoods, some of which I had never visited.  Again, there are wonderful houses everywhere around this lake, a couple mansions from the early days as well, tucked back off the lake usually, having sold the property in front to lake front home owners.  I rode mostly in Greenhurst, Driftwood, Vukote and Stockholm Point.  It was a great ride.  Meanwhile, Evie spent much of the morning alternating between making Pulla, a Swedish sweet bread and cutting weeds.

We relaxed most of the afternoon, on the dock reading and around 5:00, Evie went in and braised some pork chops.  About 5:20, Jane Grice called, wondering if we would like to boat with them down to Celeron, about 11 miles south, and eat at the Harbor Inn.  It took Evie about two seconds to say yes.  Since they were already in their boat, we both jumped into the shower and were ready to go about the time they arrived at our  dock.  It was a lovely night on the lake, warm and sunny, a bit choppy as we headed to the restaurant.  We ate outside on the deck and all of us really enjoyed our meals.  The menu was interesting and though we had fish frys, everything looked good.  The fish was lightly battered, a cod from Alaska, one of the best fish fries I have had at the lake.  By the time we left, the restaurant was packed, with people waiting in line for a table.  It's open all fall as well, so it's a place worth patronizing.  Our boat ride home was easy, an almost empty lake, a full moon to our back, a slight breeze, as we arrived at our dock around 9:30.  It was great to catch up with Jane and Jerry and they are always fun to be with.  We both like spontaneous kinds of nights like this.
