Early Morning Stillness as Sun Rises

Cruising with Hayden and Halle

Captaining the boat
It's now about 6:40 and I have been up since just before 6:00, a quiet morning I thought until a bass boat just roared by, anxious to catch that fish.  The sky was a pale pink when I got up, and it slowly deepened, as the sun rose over Long Point, as I sat outside on my front porch, cool enough (59 degrees) to need a fleece and contemplate getting out my Ugg boots.  The book I just read, A DEBT TO PLEASURE, made a point of never using the world 'delicious,' a book about food, but I will break the rule because this is a delicious morning.  It's now 7:00, however, and the sky has lost its color, the clouds have arrived, and the pink has turned to gray, clouds masking the sun's rays.  Time to go inside

We were lucky again yesterday, a sunny and mostly clear day, some clouds late, a brief 10 minute shower around 5:30, but a good day with the girls.  Evie made them healthy peach biscuits for breakfast, to go with their cereal and once we got Hayden up, around 9:30, we went fishing.  The girls drove both ways, Hayden on her own, Halle on my lap, and we boated down pass the bridge to our 'sweet spot,' the span of woods below Cheney's farm, anchored and fished with not much success, nothing new, for over an hour.  Then the girls got antsy, so we cruised home along the shoreline, looking at houses and just enjoying being out on the water, a fun morning.

When we got home, the girls wanted to go swimming and I would wager they swam with Evie for close to two hours before coming in for lunch.  The rest of the afternoon was spent swimming, reading in their rooms, making friendship bracelets (Halle and I made two), while Evie cut the lawn.  Both girls seemed happy to just be around the house, so we enjoyed the leisure. Hayden finished two books, one we gave her earlier in the summer, WONDER,  and one she had gotten at the Prendergast library in Jamestown, quite a reader.  We had an easy dinner, Boboli pizza, with salad and corn and for a change, ate on the front porch.  Peaches and ice cream for dessert, becoming a tradition, though the girls had sprinkles on their ice cream, and we watched some of the Olympics before bed.
