Picnic at Leonards

Kathy and Becca Leonard

Up at 5:20 to a cool morning, 61 degrees outside, a bluish sky which turns pink along the horizon as the sun struggles to rise.  The cool breeze feels strange, as it's been so warm lately.  Today's supposed to be more like a Chautauqua day, high of 79, sunny with a slight chance of rain, which we definitely need.

Yesterday was a day to relax, as we were both very tired from our wedding the previous evening, getting to bed late, and up early.  I did watch Federer win his seventh Wimbledon title though it's not the same with out a Connors/Mc Enroe match.  It also reminded me of my parents, who always used to be out here during the tennis tournaments and followed them assiduously, especially my mom.  She was a good tennis player into her 80's when she stopped because she thought she was letting her partners down.  We also did a lot of watering from the lake, where I have a sump pump rigged up so we can take water from the lake for the garden and bushes.  And Evie made honey whole wheat bread, the recipe which we always made when we were in Istanbul, a good all purpose bread, excellent for sandwiches and toast.

For dinner, Leonard's invited us over for a picnic, a beautiful night to eat outside, play some bean bag and enjoy each other.  We had a cold pasta salad, fresh corn, broccoli salad, and a crisp with ice cream for dessert, all great.  And the Leonard's and their granddaughter Isabel gave Evie a neat gift, a bread basket that can be used in the oven, for her being so nice to their granddaughter during the past three weeks.  Both love being with each other, Isabel like a surrogate granddaughter when the others are not here.  We sat outside and talked until about 9:30 and went home to read and go to bed.
