Aloha Effingham, Hello Kansa City

We are up early, 6:00,  here at the Hampton Inn, drinking our coffee, watching Morning Joe.  We are about five and a half hours away from Lee's Summit, so we should get there in early afternoon.  We made good time yesterday, arriving about 3:30CT, taking nine and a half hours  to get to Effingham. IL

Our trip was easy yesterday, no traffic in Columbus or Indianapolis, so we breezed through both cities.  Spring had not yet come to northern Ohio, but by the time we got to Columbus and especially to parts of Indiana, all was green on the sides of the road, as trees were in bloom, making it a lovely drive.  The first green of the year is always a shock and a delight.  We have been used to hillsides, leafless, a lavender almost, especially last week on our drive to and from Darien, CT.  What a difference around here and I know the same will be true in Missouri.  Spring is in full bloom in these parts.

We went to the Lone Star steak house for dinner, our traditional spot and it did not disappoint as the photos show. I had a burger with mushrooms and cheese, Evie a chicken Caesar salad and a couple of beers.  We sat at the bar, met a couple of guys, one who was here working on a power plant for a couple of weeks.  He actually had done work in Dunkirk, NY, last year, so he really gets around.  He's from Birmingham, Alabama, an avid football fan, so we talked quite a bit about their National Championship team.  He works only when needed, about half the year he says, and likes it that way because he has lots of time to do what he likes.  The other guy had a bizarre job, working for the railroad. He travels, checking out each train crossing, evaluating it and making sure it's in good condition.  Both were on their own, away from home for long periods of time, living in motels, eating all their meals out.  I assume this gets quite tiresome after a while but for us, it's fun, a change, something we enjoy doing but only for a night or two.

On to KC and Tommy and Mary and Nick and Marlena.
