Get Out The Kayaks---Lake Opens Up

7:15---Lake Partially Frozen

8:00---Lake Open

Hiking Long Point

Up by 7:00. to about twenty yards of open water,  from the shore out.  Off to the south, crows are gathered on the ice around what looks like large branch and overhead, a hawk circles, chased by seagulls for some reason.  Within the hour, the ice has floated away and the lake is completely open now, across to Long Point and down towards Wells Bay.  To the north as well, what once appeared to be ice is gone and I assume we could kayak the entire lake.  I just went out to pick up the paper and felt rain drops begin.  It's over 50 degrees already so perhaps winter is actually over.  It looks like a wet and cloudy day so far, a good day to do yoga.

Yesterday morning, however, was sunny and cool, so we decided to take advantage of the morning and walk Long Point and Sunset Bay.  We hike a circular path, staying in the woods until we reached the main road for Sunset Bay, then hiked down through the ne

ighborhood until, once again we were in the park, walked out to the end of Long Point, then back to our car.  It was about 4 and 1/2 miles, took us just under two hours, a good morning.  The ground was still frozen in shady spots but muddy where the sun could find it.  We met, as usual, no one on the path though we did see two intrepid fishermen venture out on the ice, hesitantly I might add.  We walked quickly up the hill, as we did not want to see them fall in.

I spent my afternoon at the car dealer, getting what was supposed to be a thirty dollar oil change and ended up spending two hundred dollars on various 'recommended services.'  What a sucker I am for them; anything to keep my car, now almost twelve years old going.  I also stopped at Sam's, got my tires rotated for free, and dropped off my income tax info at an office in downtown Jamestown.

Frozen pizza and salad for dinner, and we watched news, Smash (it's getting so corny and predictable) and ended up watching the home improvement channel as nothing else interested us.
