Running Out Of Titles

7:47

One Year Ago Today
Up early, at 5:45, to darkness, what else, and a slowly lighting sky.  It's been awhile since I have been up this early, so it was fun to see the dark slowly turn to streaks of light, then more light, and finally the sun peaked through the clouds for a few minutes before hiding once again behind the cloud cover.  Now, the sky is mostly gray, with white clouds over Wells Bay and Tom's Point, where the sun is rising and gray and overcast off to the north, towards the CI.

Yesterday, we took a long walk, on a cloudy day, almost five miles, along Bemus lake road, down into Long Point Park, then back to Bemus, a little longer than our usual walk.  We want to get up to four or five miles a day, especially on days when I don't do yoga or Evie works out.

For me, enjoying a longer walk is a matter of being patient, or using yoga terms, being mindful, paying attention to what I am doing at the moment, to the woods, trees, lake, sky, my steps,  rather than wondering how much longer we have to go, something I am not very good at doing.  If I can ignore the  fact that we have two more miles to walk, I am much happier and able to walk greater distances.  My dictum: To travel is better than to arrive.  I think that's the one thing yoga is teaching me: to be more patient, less aware of the goal or the end or finishing something, more aware of what's going on right now (mindfulness), whether deep breathing or walking in the woods.  Interesting, there's an article in today's NYTimes on 'mindful eating,' so antithetical to Americans way of eating fast.  The gist is that by paying attention to what you eat, slowing down, savoring the flavors and textures and smells of each bite as you chew, you eat much less.

We had left overs last night for dinner, tacos from Sunday, and they tasted even better than on Sunday.  We also watched the beginning of the new series, Smash, much advertised, and it was pretty good, a take off on Glee to an extent but it has more lee way to go in different directions because it's not set in a high school with teenagers.  It's about the making of a musical, based on Marilyn Monroe's life, with the main stars being the  two writers, a stage manager,  a producer, a director, and two actresses, who are auditioning for the parts, as well as their families.  So far, it looks like it could be good.
