47 Degrees and Slick Puddles of Water Dot the Lake

8:15

Melting Lake

Rails to Trails out of Mayville
Up at 7:00 to a warm outdoors, gray skies and lake, as today promises to be another unusually warm day, taking away almost all signs of winter other than a slowly melting lake.  The snow is gone in almost all the yards, just a few piles left where the snowplow piled it.  Nothing attractive about a day like this, almost as if nature lies naked, exposed, embarrassed, waiting for another covering of snow.

Evie went off to the Y yesterday, for yoga, working out and some shopping, so I went semi exploring and took an hour walk out of Mayville on the above trail, heading north.  About a hundred yards into the trail, there is a kiosk where the trail splits.  If you go to the right, you head towards Stockton, then on to Bemus; if you go straight ahead, you go towards Westfield.  These are great trails for snow mobilers but because it's been so warm, they have not been allowed on the trails.  The trail is mostly wooded, perhaps 10 yards of trees on each side of the trail, then fields, either fallow or farmed, mostly untended I think.  It was nice to find a new trail though it's pretty obvious to almost any eye but mine.

Sadies, the cafe which closed in Mayville has reopened at The Patio Cafe, with a lunch and dinner menu, mostly pizzas, salads, and some Thai dishes, which seems a bit strange.  Perhaps it's owned by the Thai Restaurant that opened this summer at the Farms.  Just as I was parking, I ran into Jerry and Jane Grice and ended up going to Bonars Diner with them for lunch.  Both are doing well, Jane selling lots of houses, and Jerry just got back from Florida where he was visiting his kids, grand kids, and great grand kids.

We experimented with dinner, as Evie put together veggies burgers, made of pinto beans, bread crumbs, eggs, and spices, served on a bun with sauerkraut, swiss cheese, and a mayo/cocktail sauce mix.  They are fried and were quite good.  With Brussels sprouts, it was a great dinner, as we watched Romney's success in Florida.  I guess, however, I prefer to get my news via Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, less shrill, more humor, and honest.  I wonder how many people feel this way.
