A Pink Sky, Clear and Crisp, A Beautiful Day Begins

8:03
7:45

Up at 7:00, to a glow of pink over the opposing hills, 19 degrees outside, quite a contrast from the high 40's of the weekend, but it's supposed to get warmer as the week goes along.  There appears to be a thin skin of ice on the lake, but also some open spots.  This part of the lake seems to freeze quicker than the north end, by CI, and the south end freezes before our part.  It makes be want to strap a pair of skates on and take off, like Hans Brinker.  Wouldn't it be amazing if the lake did freeze solidly, with a surface like today.  You could literally skate across the lake.

Yesterday was NFL Sunday, and I am sick of laying around watching football, though watching Tim Tebow play well was exciting.  It's nice to have evidence there is a God, especially one who cares about how a football team performs.  Actually, I kind of like him, if only he would tame his Jesus stuff.  Between football and the republican debates, what else is going on in the world.  Nothing if you watch TV in the US.

CI Coast, Icing Up
Evie actually relaxed most of the day, no cookies, no cakes, no bread, no organizing.  We did take a long walk at the CI, which is our routine for Sunday, picked up a pound of ground chuck at the Light House for burgers in the evening.  Most of the snow on the streets in the CI had melted so it was an easy walk though colder than we thought.  I had brought only a light pair of gloves and my hands were cold much of the way despite a temperature in the 30's.

Bell Tower and Flocks of Coots at the Chautauqua Institution
I cooked burgers outside on the grill, Evie baked some sweet potato fries (compliments of Joyce Leonard from this summer), and we enjoyed watching The Good Wife on the tube, saving Downton Abbey for tonight or tomorrow.  A day with nothing we had to do, not that unusual for us actually though I don't like to admit it.  Retirement means there's nothing you have to do.  I like it, like doing what I want, when I want, if I want.

Today looks like a good day for a drive to the Audubon Nature Center, about a half hour away, and take a walk through their grounds.

Ah, it's 7:53 and the sun is just beginning to peak through the trees above Wells Bay.  Blinding!  Have to sit in another chair.
