Frosty Saturday

Long Point

Dead Moss Covered Tree Limbs

Southern Tier Brewery's Pub

A frosty morning, 26 degrees outside, another brilliant sunrise, as I have to move to another chair because the sun is so bright in our living room, a tough life!  Listening to my favorite sports show, Only A Game, then Weekend Edition, before we rise from our couches and get ready for the day.

We are heading into Dunkirk, for a benefit we read about in the paper called Empty Bowls, which is sponsored by an artist cooperative and a local church.  The artists have donated over 900 bowls to the parish.  Participants buy an original, one of a kind, unsigned bowl for 10, 20, or 30 dollars and you get the bowl plus it's filled with soup.  It's a neat idea, starts at 11:00 so we hope to be on our way by 10:00 after, of course, my trip to the North Harmony Disposal Station.  Tonight we head to the Rod and Gun Club for dinner so Evie has a night off from cooking.

We had a great walk yesterday at Long Point as I mentioned, snowy and crisp and it felt really good to get out side and enjoy the day.  I am not sure why we have not kayaked recently but maybe we can get our on the lake today or tomorrow.  Right now steam is rising from it's wrinkled surface, as a bit of wind picks up.  In the distance, I can hear guns go off as deer season has one more week.

Last night, about 5:30, we headed off to the Southern Tier Brewery, about a 15 minute drive, where the local artisan brews are made.  On Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays, from 4:30 on, they open their pub to the locals.  When we got there, the parking lot was packed, much to our surprise.  We were able to belly up to the neat bar, to get a brew for 3 bucks, then found stools in the back, overlooking the huge stainless steel vats which the revelers can see through the glass wall on one side of the pub.  It's a fairly small room, probably 50-75 people, and everyone was in good spirits.  You can get a pulled pork sandwich and they also had a lobster bisque.  However, the neat part is you can bring your own food if you like.  A couple next to us had a large plate of appetizers they had picked up from Wegman's and were eating it with their beers.  They said you could also order out a pizza, and it would be delivered as the pub menu is limited.  They also mentioned that in the summer its very kid friendly, and you could sit out side, bring a picnic dinner, and sit and enjoy the beer as you picnic.  Sounds like a great idea.

We really enjoyed it and wondered why it took us so long to try it, as Linda and Ron had mentioned how much they enjoyed it.  We ran into Dick Redington, one of my breakfast buddies, with a couple of friends from the Rodger Tory Peterson Center and CI.  We came home, had more roasted chicken and mashed potatoes, and watched THE PLEDGE, with Jack Nicolson, a bit long but decent.
