Snowy Beginning to Kansas City Road Trip

Yesterday Afternoon at 4:30 PM
It snowed quite a bit last night, starting around 1:00 in the afternoon but didn't really start to get heavy until around dinner time.  As you can see from the photo, it was starting around 4:30 and it was a strange mixture of snow and clouds and sunshine until the lake effect snow moved in.  They predicted anyway from a couple of inches to six or eight by morning, and I am sure some areas did get hit harder than others.

We spent most of yesterday getting ready; fortunately, I checked my oil, found it was low, took it in and they discovered a broken casket or washer, fixed it, so I hope the Pilot is ready for two 16 hour trips.  We did pack most of the car last night, so all we had to do was throw a few things in this morning, and we can be off.  I just hope that once we get past Erie, the roads will clear and we have no trouble the rest of the way.  We hope to make it to our favorite stop, Effingham, IL, by 4:30  and eat at our favorite burger/steak house, one where we have sat at the bar and got to know a couple of really interesting guys the last two years.

It's about 5:30 and we want to be off by 6:00 so off I go to get dressed, finish packing the car and we head for Kansas City.  We cannot wait to see Tom and Mary and Nick and Marlena.  In fact, Marlena called last night to see what time we would arrive on Saturday.  What a cutie.

No pictures of this morning's dawn.  I can see an inch or so of snow on the ground and it's 30 degrees outside.  Looks like the roads should be fine.
