More Painting, A Lake of Buffleheads, and Warm with More Rain

One Year Ago Today in KC
We move on to the living room today, after finishing the kitchen and dining room.  I put a third coat on the ceiling as we were unhappy with the streaks from the previous paintings.  It's still not perfect but better than it was.  For some reason, the paint is not covering as well as it should or I am doing something wrong with the rollers.  I don't expect to be done with painting until Wednesday, as it takes much longer than I thought to get set up, with drop cloths on the bookcases, counter tops, etc, before you can even begin painting.  Then, cutting in takes time, and must be done before I begin rolling the ceiling first, then the walls.  And we are still struggling with carpet colors, having a difficult time picking out something we really like.  We can live with lots of colors or shades but nothing yet has set our hearts on fire.  Maybe that's just the way it it.
Painting mess

We watched FROZEN RIVER last night, a depressing movie about a family about to lose their house; to keep things together, the mother gets involved in smuggling immigrants into Canada, across the frozen river.  A great performance by Mellisa Leo (she was up for an Academy award for this performance) and her son kept us watching the poverty and tragedy of other people's lives and, fortunately, it has a happy ending.  Though she ends up in jail for a few months for smuggling, she makes the moral decision at the end to sacrifice herself for others.  A difficult movie to watch, as we see how desperately some people live, either just getting buy, or being smuggled across a frozen river to another country to make a new life.  How lucky we are in comparison to have a home, a family, and health.

First coat of the ceiling in living room is done, all is taped and ready to go.  Second coat of ceiling tomorrow, all the walls, perhaps twice, done either tomorrow night or Wednesday morning.  The end is near, I think, so we can then start worrying about a carpet.  It looks good, we like the soft buff color of the walls.  Not a great change but fresh, rich, and new.  I went to the paint store for the third straight day; I wonder if this is the usual, you never get enough, you always need more of something, whether paint, rollers, tape or whatever.
